Quick update – prenatal visit
I had my second last prenatal tonight with my GP. Things are still good, great blood pressure, growth and I only gained 1.5 lbs. The baby was really active all day, she’s a wiggle worm for sure! My last GP visit is May 15.
I go for possibly my last ultrasound next Wednesday to check growth and position. I’ll update again then.
I start seeing my OB at the end of May on the 28th. I’ll see her every week from then till the baby arrives.
What happened to my ankles? (31 weeks)
Ok… what happened to my ankles and when will they deflate? The “swollen ankles” started in this past week and I got to say, not very attractive at all. I’m sure part of it’s the heat wave we’ve had and the other part is the fact that I’m at the 8 months mark now. The little one has been moving and kicking up a storm this past week. Very active! She’s settled down this weekend but I find the more active I am the less she is. My next (and possibly second last) prenatal with my doctor is this week. I’ll get my ultrasound papers and hopefully get it done this week or next. After that I’ll start visits with my OB.
Now that the nice weathers here I’ve been busy as a bee out in the back yard. Finally done with the umpteen million bags of yard waste I’ve collected. Today I tacked the gardens and they’re almost ready for summer. I went on a cleaning spree on Friday and did almost the whole house after work. It sure needed it. 4 weekends till my baby shower and that’s also the same weekend my Mom’s going to come stay for a few days and do up the nursery. Hopefully we’ll be able to get the furniture off Ben’s aunt that weekend too and get everything up and running before Mom goes. Maybe then I’ll be able to sit down and rest for the 9th month.
Work’s been busy, home’s busy, so much to do aside from baby coming. Those who know me know I’m not one to sit down and relax, there’s always so much to get done. I’m sure this will contribute to me being a good Mom myself. Always prepared, able and willing to finish whatever needs done.
Thank you Nestle Baby! (30 weeks)
While surfing baby sites a while back I came across Nestle Baby. I signed up to get free samples and they sent me a diaper bag (backpack) with changing pad, a small canister of formula, baby on board sign, an instant breakfast packet and a Nestle Baby Newsletter. Sweet! I can totally see myself using the backpack for small jaunts. It’s spacious with lots of pockets and not too bulky. Great for a few necessary items.
I also have a flyer here for the Simlac club which also offers free samples and a diaper bag. Why not? If I need to resort to formula why not have a couple different brands to find out what works? I’m sure it’s not good to switch often but if she really doesn’t like one brand, no harm in trying the other.
I added some new pics of what we’ve collected so far. I’m excited, leave me alone.
Back from our babymoon (30 weeks)
en and I went to Montreal this weekend to see UFC 83 (which doubled as a baby moon). The trip went great and I was comfortable and feeling great the whole time. It was a bit tight in the arena for 5 hours but me and the baby did good. I think we kept her up too late cause she wasn’t too active the next day. As soon as we got to my mom’s she woke up and I was relieved she was ok. We picked up a couple pieces of “french” baby clothes to honour Ben’s heritage.. Gagou Tagou! Ben loved the baby wetsuit but I really don’t see her in a pool this summer… Mom’s is often chilly!
Only 10 weeks to go (if she’s on time). I can’t wait to get Ben moved out of his office and have the nursery ready. Our spare bedroom is full to the brim with baby gear and clothes. Sometimes I go in and sort stuff, I can’t wait till she’s here.
Another check up (29 weeks)
Well I’m 29.5 weeks and had another check up tonight. No change – everything’s great! I go back in 2 weeks.
I’ve only picked up a couple of clothes items for our baby girl. I can’t resist when I go out and see something. Ben’s been on about getting girly camoflague for the baby but I haven’t found any yet. Instead though, I did find baby girl cargo pants. Ben’s always in cargos so I had to get baby a matching pair… well Ben’s aren’t pink, heh.
The shower invites should be going out soon. Just waiting on the Sears registry cards. It’s going to be at Julie’s condo – same place as the wedding shower – on Saturday May 24 (after the long weekend). It’s co-ed and hope to see everyone there.
Not much to report… (28 weeks)
There’s not much to report since my last post. I go back to the doc next week on the 15th for another check up and should be getting my last ultrasound the first week in May to check the position and size of the baby.
I’m feeling great, tired from all the chaos in my life (work, school, dog, new car, etc) but that should all be calming down soon. Tonight’s my last class and I’m done my program! So glad to have it over with. I won’t technically graduate till the fall but all my courses are done. Sprocket’s been feeling better the last couple days and letting us sleep – thankfully. We’re putting the final touches on getting a new car, just waiting for the seller to do a few things on his end. Hopefully we’ll have it in a week or two. I’m so glad we were able to get the money for new wheels. I couldn’t imagine hauling a baby around in a old 2 door on mat leave. Things seem to have a way to work out for us. Ben’s making great progress on the basement with the help of his family, he should be able to move on down in a month or so. I’m determined to have EVERYTHING in place for the baby for the first week of June – nursery painted & set up, car seat installed, etc.
When at Sears yesterday for work I picked up another onesie – “I’m new here”, haha so cute.
When I have more baby news I’ll be sure to post.
Hospital information night & while I’m in the hospital… (27 weeks)
Last night Ben and I attended a birthing info night at Women’s College Hospital. There was a panel of four doctors and they were very helpful. It was weird being in a room full of pregnant women! Since they have a 80 page booklet online going over their policies, procedures and rules I felt well prepared. My main questions were regarding visiting hours since the website and booklet had different information.
During labour and delivery I’m allowed to have two support people with me, Ben and one other. Those people are given bracelets and can come/go as often as they like while I’m in the hospital. They’re given 24/7 access. Everyone else (siblings, parents, etc) has to abide by the posted visiting hours of 3:30 pm – 8:30 pm daily and there is a maximum of two guests visiting at a time (not including support people) and they discourage many people from hanging out in the waiting room. Thankfully being downtown there’s a ton to do, see, eat, and shop while visitors are waiting their turn. Between 1 – 3 pm only the partner is allowed with the mum and baby (no second support person) as this is considered a resting period. All phones are shut off to the rooms, which is ok cause I don’t plan on having a phone turned on in my room to avoid the abundance of calls. Ben will have his Blackberry with him (although turned off in the hospital) so he can field calls.
My biggest worry right now is the second support person. Both my sister and mom are willing to be that person. I’m torn between the two. I obviously want my mom with me but worry about her keeping long hours and she’s an hour away (not that it matters too much cause labour is usually multi-hour). My sister on the other hand is closer to us in distance and it’ll be easier for her to drop everything and come running. I Just hate the idea of mom being limited to visiting hours. Not sure what I’ll do yet, but I still have a few months to decide.
My friend at work told me a sad story of her friend losing her pregnancy at six months because of high blood pressure. Thank god I don’t have to worry about that. I’ve always had good blood pressure. Even though I’m overweight I’m pretty darn healthy and my doctor has no real concerns. I went for another check up tonight and my gestational diabetes test came back negative – wohoo! I’m so thankful for that. She measured my stomach and said it’s growing nicely and I only gained 2 lbs this month. Things are going very well. I start my bi-monthly visits now and go back in two weeks. Also today, I ordred my Maya baby sling. They look amazing, comfortable and perfect for carrying a baby around. I ordered it from the website cause it’s hard to get the larger sizes in Canada. It should arrive in about two weeks.
