26 weeks (6 months)
Phew – Meighen’s first Christmas is done! She sure had a good one. We spent the 23rd – 26th at my folks and met up with Ben’s family tonight for dinner. She had a good time with all her cousins (minus two who live in Quebec). Meighen got a lot of clothes for Christmas (mainly sleepers) and a bunch of toys. Grammy and Grampy got her a tick-tock clock of her own. Since she was born Meg loves to watch my Mom’s clock with a pendulum.
Just yesterday Meg started sucking her thumb! I thought it weird she was sucking on her fingers and not her thumb but that has changed. She still takes a dum-dum (soother) to help her sleep. I’m not sure if I’m for or against thumb sucking. I hear it messes up baby teeth (over bite) but that could be an old wives tale. I think I’m for anything that helps calm her down and self sooth. She’s also been babbling non stop with lots of new noises.
Meg’s still rolling around like a little demon. She was even standing on her own for a minute or two the other day while hanging onto Daddy’s pants and the couch. What a strong girl! I’m going to start her on solids this week – well chunky or mushy foods. I probably could have started this a month ago since she’s been on cereal for two months now. First up will be one new veggie every few days (carrots, sweet potatoes, peas and maybe squash). Babies tend to take to fruit more than veggies so I want to get her used to veggies first then fruit (banana, apple, pears and peaches). I’m going to be making all my own baby food – I have a great cookbook for babies. I make lots of homemade stuff for me and Ben so what’s a bit more for Meg?
She’s been a real treat lately developing so many new skills and talents. I can’t wait to see what’s next.
She did it!!
Today starts Meighen’s 25th week and tonight she rolled over for the first time… and second, third, fourth. She’s a rolling machine! I’m thrilled she can from her back to tummy with ease. She’s been going from side to side but never to her tummy. I was beginning to worry although I know all babies progress at their own rate.
We had a good week. Went downtown, visited at Daddy’s work, hung out with Auntie Julie, and had dinner with Pere and moncle Chad/Aunt Steph. Pere took us to the Keg for dinner and it was so cute. Meg fell asleep in the high chair with her arm propped up on the side (like she was driving). She slept this way at the table for quite a while. This week was also the first time we left her alone with someone (other than Grammy). Both Ben and I had our holiday parties on Thursday so Julie took Meg for a couple hours. It was half and half – half good, half bad. Meg cried quite a bit for a little while but eventually settled down. We’ll have to start leaving her with friends and family a bit more to get her used to it.
Not a lot going on this week… after all it’s Christmas!! Ben works part of the week then is off till the new year. We’re going to my folks on Christmas eve for a few days and seeing Ben’s family on the 28th for dinner. After that just a few more family visits and hopefully a bit of time to ourselves.
That’s about it for now… not sure if I can take much more excitement.
Happy Holidays everyone!
24 weeks
Meighen is now 24 weeks! I can’t believe she’s almost six months old. Time has gone by fast but slow at the same time. The first couple months are a blur to us now. She’s become such a part of our lives, family and household it’s like she’s always been here. I love her more and more each day – I just want to hug her and squeeze her and make her pop! Just a figure of speech – I don’t want to see her hurt.
Meg’s still doing awesome. She grabs at everything, still sleeps 10-12 hours at night, eating cereal three times a day, can roll from side to side (not front to back yet) and has stopped teething for now. The tooth that was about to come through became covered up again. Ah well, slowly but surely it will come.
Meighen had her first Christmas dinner last night at Ben’s Aunt and Uncle’s. Her three cousins (all girls) were there and they all adore her. They had fun putting on a concert for Meg complete with instruments, singing and dancing – it made her smile. Meighen received some amazing gifts, all toys to help stimulate her. She’s already having fun with the activity walker and guitar. The turbo air balls (not sure what to call it) scares her a bit now but it is for slightly older kids. I’m sure she’ll love it shortly – we already do, ha ha.
On Thursday we went for our second family portrait at the Supercentre. The prints came out amazing – we couldn’t be happier with them. No sooner were they in the house than they were cut up, put into Christmas cards and dropped in the mailbox. I usually have my cards out earlier but I dropped the ball on making our photo reservation.
We have a busy week ahead of us. Tuesday we go downtown for a chiro appointment (me and Ben). Wednesday we go uptown for Meg’s doctor appointment – she wants to check on her rash which has totally cleared up! Thursday Auntie Julie is going to baby sit for a little bit as it’s both mine and Ben’s company Christmas party. I’m skipping the first half of mine and just doing the dinner. Next weekend we’re having a holiday dinner out with Pere (Ben’s dad) and then we get a few days to rest before heading to Grammy’s on Christmas Eve for a few days.
That’s about it for now. More on the way.
23 weeks
We’ve had a busy week! Last Saturday we all headed up to Brighton to spend some time with Grammy and Grandpa. Ben came home that day and left me, Meg and Sprocket for a few days. While in Brighton I got a haircut, we took Meg for lunch (not quite as planned) and weighed Meg at Mom’s clinic (14 lbs… shouldn’t she be more?). Meg was a good girl as always but her new tooth was giving her a little bit of pain. That’s right… she’s cutting her first tooth! It’s on the bottom left just inside her cheek. She’s doing really well having no ear infections, fever or mega crying.
Meg’s been really talkative lately. The whole time at Grammy’s she was cooing and babbling. It was sweet. She also got a kick of the new puppy Nelson and giggled up a storm. We came on Wednesday and went straight to the doctor cause Meg has had a nasty rash on and off for a month across her chest and tummy. The doc thinks its eczema and gave her a cream which has worked miracles.
Yesterday I put up the Christmas tree and Meg was quite happy watching it go up piece by piece. She got a taste of Christmas at Grammy’s watching her animated elves and Santa. Today we’re going to tackle some more holiday baking. I got the few hundred sausage rolls done in Brighton and moving onto pies and bars today. Next week we’ll tackle the cookies and we should be done!
Oh yeah! Last Friday Meg went to see Santa at the mall for the first time. We went to the Scarborough Town Centre because they have a nice set up. I was really disappointed with the Eaton Centre display – boring! We didn’t have a long wait in line and Meg didn’t fuss once. She was happy sitting with a stranger and loved that they knew her name and were talking to her. We got some big smiles – what a great first Santa pic. = )
