Another word and boots.

Jan 27

When we picked Meg up from daycare last night, on the way out to the car she said “Mummy!”. She said it a few times on the way home and a bunch more last night. I’ve been mama and mum till now, now I’m Mummy! It’s cute. She says it so matter-of-factly.

Meg’s been obsessed with her shoes for many many months now. She always gets hers from the closet (always a matching pair) and brings them to us to put them on. Then she’ll bring me my shoes and Ben his shoes. Well, last night she put on her own boots! She’s been trying for a long time to figure out how to put her shoes on and the other day at our friends she successfully got one boot on. Ok, they’re not her winter boots, those are too hard but they’re her rain boots. It was super cute. She lined them up, leaned with one hand against the wall and tried to smoosh her foot into the boot. Well, it worked and she wore her boots for the evening. Crazy kid.

I’ve finished categorizing all the blog posts and also added my posts from my pregnancy. It’s all on this site now = )

New design

Jan 25

It occured to me a while ago that the “theme” to this page really didn’t suit Meighen anymore. Gone are the baby days and now we’re onto sweet little girl. It took a little while to actually activate it but ta-da, here it is. I’m hoping to add more pages in the next little while and beef up the video section. Most people can see photos and videos on Facebook but I’ll showcase the special/extra sweet things here too.

Let there be words!

Jan 24

Meg’s been getting words slowly one by one over the last few months. It seems the last week we’ve had a breakthrough! We’re getting a couple new words a day – it’s awesome. It’s usually repeating after us but she says them almost perfectly.

Existing words – up, no, done, ma-ma, mum, da-da, shoes, boots, juice, duck, one, two, three, eye, nose, and I think a few more.

This week we’ve added – doggy, dirty, bubba, bubby, dum dum, hot, cookie, boat, car, book, out, baby, ouchie, bye, and dad.

This morning around 7:30 *ug* Meighen climbed out of her bed after an uninterupted sleep and ran into our room going “ma-ma”. That was my cue to get up. Very cute.

Crazy Week

Jan 15

It’s been an uber busy week. I won three different movie passes! We had to pick and choose to avoid messing with Meg’s schedule too much. Monday we skipped “High Life”. Tuesday Ben was doing his DnD thing so it was just Meg and I. Wednesday Ben dropped Meg at my sisters while we went to “The Lovely Bones”. It’s amazing how things affect you differently once you have kids. The content bugged me a bit but really took a toll on Ben. I think it was because the storyline was more about a father-daughter relationship vs mother-daughter. We stuck through it and were very eager to get our little doopy afterwards. She had a good time with Auntie but was happy to see us. Thursday Ben and my sister went to Book of Eli while we had another girls night at home.

Meg is such a joy. I can’t believe how unbelievably happy and sweet she is. I’d love to know what we did to deserve her, although I’m sure things will change when she gets older. I think a lot of it us her natural personality with some influence from us. I think another huge part of it is the wonderful daycare we have for her. Robyn is super sweet and has three wonderful boys. Meighen’s companion Ewen adores her and you can see the two of them flirt with each other. So adorable. They’re very sweet to one another.

Now that she has words it’s easier to give her what she wants. She can tell me she’s thirsty, wants a snack, wants to go out or upstairs to play. She still plays by herself quietly and is content for long periods of time. She’ll flip through her books, watch tv in her playroom (turn on, flip channels and all), play with her dollies and puzzles. Meighen’s turning out to be such a big help too. She’ll carry things around for us, take things to Dada in the living room, put her toys away when finished with them and wipe up when she spills her drink. Yesterday she tried to let the dogs out to the back yard. I asked them if they had to go out for a pee and she ran over to the patio doors and tried to slide them open. An impossible task right now but we’re hoping to replaced them in the upcoming months – the doors that is. She loves her naked baby time (bath time) and is great in the car. She loves to go shopping, be out on the town and see all the lights. The new car comes with Bluetooth so when I called Ben the other night I was able to talk to Meg through the car, she even talked back, it was cute.

We don’t have much going on this weekend. Laying low and spending some quality time with the Meg. When I was out Wednesday night cruising the Eaton Centre I found a great bathing suit I want to get her at Old Navy. The one she has now is getting small and I want to start taking her swimming again now that the weather has improved. It’s three degrees in TO (above zero!) and things are green! Gotta love it. Snow is pretty but life with a baby is easier without slush, snow piles and tons of layered clothing.

Oh yeah, while we had snow last weekend we took Meg tobogganing at the school. She had a great time and caught on quick. We didn’t want to just send her flying down the little hills so we’d run down the hill pulling the sled with us so she’d get the idea. The giggles wouldn’t kick in till we pulled her back up the hill. Within no time she was on a much bigger hill (well, medium I guess) and went down on her own. What a girl!

It’s been a while since I posted so there’s no time like the present.

Christmas has winded down. We spent some more time with Auntie and went for dim sum on Saturday. We haven’t been in forever so this was the first time Meg was able to eat with us. She tried everything we put in front of her and ate most of it. She liked the lotus rice, har gow and LOVED the taro balls. Auntie finally has someone to eat taro with. Good stuff!

While Mere and Pere were down, m’oncle and Pere returned the crib and change table to Brampton for us. That was super awesome of them. It freed up a ton of space upstairs and finally all the rooms are settled. Meg has more space in her room since we moved the glider to the playroom. She loves her big girl bed and has slept through the night since returning to daycare on Monday. She’s sleeping so well, if only I could get a blanket to stay on her.

Meighen’s picking up new words really fast. She can now say dinner, boots and something that sounds like dog. Instead of cat she calls them nu-nus since Ben and m’oncle always call kitties minou (French).

Teeth wise, her fangs (eye teeth) are finally coming in. She was uncomfortable for a week about a month ago and they’re just breaking now. Two have come through and the other two should be coming along any time. That will fill in the gaps so it will look like she’s got them all, just missing a couple more molars.

Meighen has this new game that’s kinda cute. At night we all climb into our bed to watch a bit of tv while she falls asleep. We often give her “groupies” where Ben and I each kiss one of her cheeks at the same time – kinda a kiss sandwich. She loves it. Well now she’s started pulling our heads in together to we kiss each other. It’s funny. She tucks her fingers under our jaw or behind an ear (or in my case my hair) and pulls us in. We give each other fishy kisses and she giggles. We pull away and she does it again. This goes on for some time before we’ve had enough and distract her with something else. It’s sweet, she wants to see her parents give each other love like we give her. Awe.

I guess the only other big thing going on right now is that we picked up our new car on Tuesday. It’s a 2010 Kia Forte in a beautiful shade of blue. Ben’s been humming and hawing over a new car for some time and the time was right over the holidays. We filled out the paperwork on New Year’s Eve and picked it up on Jan 5. It’s a bit bigger than our previous Ford Focus and comes with lots of great features (heated seats, heated mirrors, wiper blade de-icing). It’s super safe and practically the whole car is an airbag. We feel way better knowing we’re all safer with a reliable car. Who knows, maybe this car will last forever and Meg will be driving it in 15 years.
